COORG- SCOTLAND OF INDIA

Kodaku is also known as Coorg.

Coorg is a rural district of Karnataka(india)

In the area's north Mandakini fort has 2 life-size elephant status at it's entrance plus a Gothic style church with a museum on it ground. Nearby the Hindu Omkareshwara Temple dates back to the 19th century.

Further north are the domed Rajas tomb , a burial place of Kodavu kings and cascading Abhi falls.

Representation

Two members of the legislative assembly are elected from Kodagu to the KarnatakaLegislative Assembly, one each from the Madikeri and Virajpet. M P Appachu Ranjanrepresents the Madikeri constituency while K. G. Bopaiah represents the Virajpet constituency; they are from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kodagu, formerly part of the Kodagu-Dakshina Kannada (Mangalore) constituency, is now part of the Kodagu-Mysore Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency. Shri Pratap Simha, from the Bharatiya Janata Party, represents Kodagu-Mysore Parliamentary constituency.

The Codava National Council and Kodava Rashtriya Samiti are campaigning for autonomy to Kodagu district.

Abbey falls

Abbey Falls (also spelled Abbi Falls and Abbe Falls) (Kannada: ಅಬ್ಬೆ ಜಲಪಾತ Abbe jalaphatha) is in kodaku. Western ghat in coorg. It is located 8 km from the Madikeri, 122 km from Maysore, 144 km from Manglore and 268 km from Banglore

Brahmagiri Hills

Brahmagiri, is a mountain range in the Western ghats of India . It is situated on the border between Kodagu district in Karnataka state in the north and Way and district of Karnataka state on the south . Brahmagiri Hill, at 1608 m height, is a scenic tourist attraction. The top of Brahmagiri Hill is well forested and has a lot of wildlife.

Tadiandamol

Tadiandamol or Thadiyandamol is the highest mountain of (Mandakiri taluk) Kodagu district, Karnataka india. It is the third highest peak in Karnataka(after Mullayyanagiri & Kudremukha). It is located Western Ghatsrange, and reaches an elevation of 1,748 m. The mountain has patches of shola forests in the valleys.

Coorg is also famous for it's Coffee.

Stayed at the Surgi Bungalow of Plantation Trails in Coorg. The bungalow is located away from the hustle and bustle of Madikeri in the Tata Coffee Plantations.

The bungalow itself is said to be built during British times. Tata Coffee have renovated these bungalows with modern creature comforts. 

The Surgi Bungalow we stayed in was maintained by two staff who take care of the cooking and attend to guest requests. The bungalow had 3 bedrooms, we occupied the Master suite which is priced at a premium compared to the other rooms as it is much larger.

The service was simply fantastic, coupled with the excellent meals prepared by the staff and the adjoining Tata golf course. As, these Bungalows are located within estates, one would have to rely on the inhouse chefs to prepare meals.

What I would like to see in the future is some improvements in pest control - Yes, once you finish a hot shower bath / during the evenings, the room is engulfed with giant sized ants, but I understand that this is a common problem in most estate stays, esp in old bungalows which have tiled roofing.

The beds could also be improved upon, Tata Coffee should consult the hospitality chain of Tata on making ones stay even more memorable.

Nagarhole is a very beautiful biological park famous for Elephant tigers and lot many other animals like deer and so on .

The Kumaradhara River is the main watercourse for this waterfall. The Kumaradhara later flows through Kukke Subrahmanya and merges with the Netravati River at Uppinangadi, which then empties into the Arabian Sea at Mangalore.

How to reach coorg ?

Coorg is well connected with the cities like Mysore (118 km), Bangalore (255 km) and Mangalore (139 km) so how to reach Coorg is not a difficult task. You can hire taxis as well as state buses to reach the hill station from these cities. It will take almost 3 hours 30 minutes to reach the place from Hassan.
