Kodaku is also known as Coorg. Coorg is a rural district of Karnataka( india) In the area's north Mandakini fort has 2 life-size elephant status at it's entrance plus a Gothic style church with a museum on it ground. Nearby the Hindu Omkareshwara Temple dates back to the 19th century. Further north are the domed Rajas tomb , a burial place of Kodavu kings and cascading Abhi falls.  Administrative divisions Taluks The district is divided into the three administrative  talukas : Madikeri Virajpet   (largest taluk and comprises the towns Virajpet, Gonikoppal, Siddapura, Ponnampet, Ammathi, Thithimathi etc.) Somwarpet Urban civic bodies The principal town, and district capital, is  Madikeri , or Mercara, with a population of around 30,000.
